Overview

Within the PE department, we offer a vocational BTEC course which is taught by energetic, enthusiastic and experienced members of staff. Lessons are a combination of both practical and theoretical components that provide you with the opportunity to learn about the human body and how it adapts to exercise, to plan and deliver physical activity sessions, to understand the impact of sport upon society and to explore the impact that sports psychology can have upon elite performers.

Why Choose This?

Do you have a genuine interest in sport? Do you enjoy playing sport? Do you have a good general sporting knowledge and keep up to date with sport in the media? Have you previously studied GCSE PE or BTEC Sport? Do you want to pursue a career within the sports industry?  If you have answered ‘yes’ to any of the previous questions, then read on!

The BTEC in Sport allows you to challenge, explore and develop your knowledge in a range of different topics within the sports industry. The independent work structure provides students opportunities to progress in the area of sport and physical education that is of the greatest interest to each individual student.

Areas of Study & Assessment

The qualification offers a wider range of units which learners can explore through practical and theory sessions.  These include nutrition, which enables learners to access up to date public health guidelines on nutritional requirements, health screening and fitness testing which provides learners with the opportunity to investigate a range of laboratory and field-based fitness tests, sports leadership and injuries in sport.

Extended Certificate

Four units, two externally assessed

One two hour examination in summer of Year 12

Extended Diploma

14 units, four externally assessed

One two hour exam in summer of Year 12

Please note that all external assessments only have the option of one re-sit. Failure to pass any re-sit would result in a failure of the course.

What Our Students Say

Doing the BTEC Sport course has helped me to develop my knowledge in a wide range of topics within the sports industry. It has also helped my own practical performance, as there are so many things that I can apply to my own training and performance.

The teachers provide plenty of support and guide us towards the highest grade that we think we can get. I’d recommend it for anyone who wants to specialise in sports.
