Lordswood Girls’ School caterers, Aspens Services, is offering a brand-new menu, which was launched to students and staff after the Easter break. Each day of the week sees a wide choice of tempting dishes, from family favourites to internationally-inspired recipes, plus delicious pastas, homemade pizzas and tasty snacks. The spirit of adventure is certainly apparent in the new menu, which includes Global Guests, such as Punjabi Butter Chicken, Egyptian Falafel Flatbread, and Mexican Spicy Beef Barbacoa. For those looking for more traditional food, hearty meals like cottage pie, sausage and mash, and roasts with all the trimmings are on offer, and there are also plenty of snack options with paninis, hot chicken wraps, and dusted wings and wedges.
The Aspens Approach
The team proudly make everything from scratch, including amazing cakes and even homemade pizza sauce with puréed tomatoes, carrots, onions and lentils to sneak in some extra 5-a-day nutrition. Theme days are extremely popular and jazz up weekday lunchtimes, as staff serve exciting menus from around the world. With value for money a high priority, Aspens pays close attention to price sensitivity and ensures that there are always offers available. The Meal Deal costs just £2.25 and includes a main meal, hot deli item or sandwich/baguette, plus a dessert and drink.
The canteen operates a Smart Card system which enables your daughter to purchase all her food and drinks throughout the week without having to handle cash on a daily basis. The use of the Smart Card system ensures queues at busy times are kept to a minimum and, if your daughter is entitled to a free school meal, that information will be stored on the card. This gives pupils entitled to free meals anonymity.
Another advantage of using the Smart Card is that you can ensure that all monies given for school food goes onto the card. You can top up your daughter’s card online using the instructions sent via ParentMail.
If the card is lost then the balance information stored on the system for your daughter can be transferred to a new card.
A Smart Card will be given to all new Year 7s at the start of the September term, free of charge. However if the Smart Card is lost or defaced there will be a £3 charge to replace it. If you require any further information then please contact Mrs Avery, our Catering Manager, on 0121 420 2443. For more information on free meals, please contact the school office. The free meal entitlement in September 2017 will be £2.25 per day.
