HELP THE ARTS

Join our Friends of the Arts scheme and help promote the arts at Lordswood Girls’ School

Lordswood Girls’ School has always been passionate about delivering a broad range of creative subjects as part of the curriculum and fostering students’ enthusiasm and enjoyment of arts education. We pride ourselves on having dedicated, highly skilled teachers who are committed to nurturing talent and providing students with opportunities to express themselves both within and outside the curriculum. We believe that the arts play an extremely important part in developing students’ confidence, language skills, problem solving skills and can support a child’s emotional well-being.

The current climate in secondary education is such that the arts are vulnerable and, whilst they are still very much a valued part of the curriculum at Lordswood, Government funding cuts mean that we are having to think differently about sustaining the arts provision we offer. To this end, we would like to invite you to join our ‘Friends of the Arts’ scheme, which is open to parents as well as members of the local community. There would be an annual sign-up fee of £20 per person, but for that fee we would offer you and your children opportunities to get involved with arts activities delivered in school and in the local area.

We are working in partnership with the Ikon Gallery, Barber Institute of Fine Arts, the RBSA Gallery and Big Brum Theatre in Education Company to put together a package that enables members to receive discounts from arts establishments in Birmingham, subsidised workshops with artists and an area of the website with details of local arts events.  As members you would also be entitled to a free welcome drink and reserved seating at any of our school events.

Money raised through this scheme will go towards new equipment and instruments for the creative arts departments, subsidising Arts Award provision and certification fees and paying creative companies to run workshops within the school.

For more information please call the school and ask for Miss Tooley or email k.tooley@lordswoodtrust.co.uk.
