FOOD AND COOKERY KEY STAGE 4 CURRICULUM INFO
What is the qualification?
Students will be studying the NCFE Vcert qualification in Food and Cookery. The qualification is equivalent to one full GCSE awarded at grades pass, merit and distinction.
What will I be doing on the course? How will it be structured?
In Year 10, students will complete two units of work; unit 1 preparing to cook and unit 2 understanding food.
In Year 11 students will complete two more units of work; unit 3 exploring balanced diets and unit 4 plan and produce dishes in response to a brief. Unit 3 is a 2 hour examination and assessed externally.
Assessment
The qualification is made up of four units of work of which three are assessed internally and one is a two hour examination assessed externally.

What skills do I need to develop to be successful at this course?
You should have an interest in making food products. You must also have an open mind towards food and be willing to experiment with new and different ingredients. You will develop a range of food preparation and cooking techniques as well as developing your knowledge of balanced diets.
What could I use this qualification for?
Career paths include: food technology, food science, the health sector, teaching, nutrition and dietetics.
