The Little Match Girl: Storytelling. Students will explore the victorian Hans Christian Andersen story and use it as a stimulus to create and devise new characters and scenes.
The Terrible Fate of Humpty Dumpty: Script. Students will learn and apply script conventions as we bring this play to life and learning the basic elements of stagecraft.
Commedia Dell’Arte: Improvisation. Students will learn all about the comical Italian 15th century improvised theatre, study the crazy character's, colourful costumes and masks and the hilarious Lazzi.
Stone Cold: Script. Students will explore the issue of homelessness through studying this script, based on the book by Robert Swindells. The students will unravel the dark and mysterious story, focus on the playwright's intentions and understand the role of a set designer learning about types of staging and key props.
Into the Woods: Devising. Using the musical Into the Woods and other fairy tale stimulus, students will explore fairy tales and bring a modern and exciting twist to well know stories and characters. Forget Fairy Godmothers and damsels in distress, no storybook will ever be the same!
Non-naturalism: Mime and physical theatre. Can we use, adapt and manipulate our bodies to creatively create not just story but a whole new world? Students will test their bodies, develop story and convey meaning for an audience using a range of stimuli exploring Trestle theatre and Frantic Assembly.
Introduction to Shakespeare: Script. Think you know the works of Shakespeare? Think again, this scheme introduces a few of his most famous plays focusing of dark characters, comic scenes and magical kingdoms. Shakespeare's work was made to be performed so be prepared to get on your feet and emerge yourself in themes that are still relevant for a modern audience.
Girls Like That: Script/ Cyberbullying. Scarlet has had a private photo sent around her school. Her so called ‘friends’ are making the situation worse. This play by Evan Placey challenges the students to develop accurate characterisation and reflect on a topic that dominates the headlines and social media.
Musicality: GCSE Musical theatre genre. Students learn about the three main principles of musical theatre song, dance and acting. Following storylines, dance numbers and show songs students will learn about the dynamic and components of musical theatre.

Assessment is continuous and will include formative and summative elements in order to promote independent learning.
The baseline assessment in Year 7 will highlight any high potential students and they will be monitored throughout the year.
Students who wish to improve their skills or confidence may be invited to lunchtime clubs in order to support their further development.
Students will be given support with homework tasks, suitable roles in performance and team work, and also extra guidance where necessary.
Students receive homework tasks when appropriate, which may involve learning lines and key vocabulary, rehearsal, self-reflection, research, extended writing and theory exam questions.
Students will also complete one homework project a year.

HOW TO SUPPORT YOUR DAUGHTER
Ensure completion of homework. This may include offering access to the internet or trips to the library where possible. Remember students can use the school library and computers at lunchtime.
Encourage your daughter to participate in extracurricular activities including theatre visits where possible. Attend performances where possible to broaden students understanding of the performing arts.
