DANCE KEY STAGE 4 CURRICULUM INFO

What is the qualification?

One full GCSE awarded at grades 9 – 1.

 

What will I be doing on the course?  How will it be structured?

There are two main components of the course:

First component is a performance of a set phrase, duet and choreograph your own dance.

Second component is knowledge and understanding of professional works and their own work.

 

Assessment

Component 1 is Internally and externally assessed. 60% of the total mark.

Component 2 is a written exam which lasts 1hr 30mins. 40% of the total mark.

 

What skills do I need to develop to be successful at this course?

In order to be successful in Dance you must develop your communication and teamwork skills as most of the practical will involve group work and collaboration. You will also need to show confidence, commitment and concentration on the course.

 

What could I use this qualification for?

This course gives you a good basis for further study of dance in A Level Dance. It will also develop your level of confidence and help with future college and job interviews. GCSE Dance is a good foundation for a career in many fitness related jobs such as: dance fitness instructor, performing arts industry, professional dancer, dance teacher and physiotherapy.
